Dinner in French Style
Marc Camoletti
playing a happy family
“Dinner in French Style” is a fast-paced comedy of situations by Marc Camoletti, where one seemingly harmless deception instantly gives birth to dozens of new ones.
Bernard dreams of spending the weekend at his country house with his beloved Suzanne while his wife Jacqueline is away visiting her mother. But the plan collapses: Jacqueline unexpectedly stays at home after learning that Robert is coming — an old family friend and a man connected to her own secrets. To save the situation, Bernard forces Robert to pass Suzanne off as his girlfriend. But the first to arrive is Suzette — a girl from the Bon Appétit agency, hired to prepare dinner.
From that moment on, the house turns into a real factory of misunderstandings: mistresses become girlfriends, the cook becomes a fashion model, the guest becomes an accomplice, and every new entrance only further entangles the already fragile family “idyll.”
It is a light, sparkling, and highly theatrical comedy about how difficult it is to keep up appearances when everyone is forced to play someone else’s role — and the truth keeps trying to come out of the kitchen and join the festive dinner table.
